Growing up in Chicago, I was the product of a Southern Baptist Mother and a Jewish Father. I know, an interesting combination! While I grew up exposed to both religions, I attended no less than 30 Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s in 8th Grade. It wasn’t until I graduated from high school and moved to a much smaller city that I realized how few Jews there really are. Only slightly more than 13 million worldwide….mind boggling! I now live in a community where you could probably count the number of Jews on a few sets of hands, but that doesn’t diminish their pride. Which is why I get so excited every year when they erect a 10ft Menorah in their front yard for all passers-by to admire. Now you can admire it too!
In honor of all my fellow “part-Jews” & Jews out there, Happy Chanukah!
*For anyone who feels the need to point out that I cannot be a “part-Jew,” I beg your pardon. I can be whatever I want 😉 And yes, that’s a Menorah on their minivan!!
